  • 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended for balance of sweet and tart.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Brown butter can be used for extra flavor.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Dark brown sugar enhances flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Add more to taste if desired.
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg A dash enhances flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Optional, brightens the dish.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  • Add the sliced apples and sauté for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  • Continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and caramelized.
  • Serve warm as a side dish or dessert.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. Reheat in a skillet over low heat with a splash of water or butter.
