Ingredients
  

For the Shrimp

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined Use the largest shrimp for a meaty texture.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Base for breading, adds crunch.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Adds depth to the breading.
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika Brings a subtle smokiness.
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust according to spice tolerance.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Essential for flavoring.
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper Balances sweetness.
  • 2 large eggs Binding agent for double-dip.
  • 2 tablespoons milk Makes egg mixture creamier.
  • Vegetable oil for frying Use canola or peanut oil.

For the Hot Honey Sauce

  • ½ cup honey Key ingredient for flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce Choose a good-quality brand.
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter Adds richness.
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar Balances sweetness.
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust for spice preference.

Instructions
 

Prepare the Hot Honey Sauce

  • In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, butter, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Over medium heat, stir until melted and well combined. Set aside to cool.

Prep the Shrimp

  • Rinse shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Prepare the Egg Wash

  • In another bowl, beat eggs and milk until smooth.

Heat the Oil

  • Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat (around 350°F).

Dredge and Dip

  • Coat each shrimp in the flour mixture, dip into egg wash, and then back into flour for a double coating.

Fry the Shrimp

  • Place shrimp in hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Let drain on paper towels.

Toss in Sauce

  • Toss crispy shrimp in hot honey sauce until well coated.

Serve

  • Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side.

Notes

Use a thermometer to check oil temperature. Don’t overcrowd the pan while frying. Leftovers can be stored for up to two days.
