Homemade Croutons

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups day-old bread, cut into ½-inch cubes
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs (thyme, oregano, parsley)
  • optional grated Parmesan cheese
  • optional paprika or red pepper flakes

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil or melted butter, garlic powder or minced garlic, salt, pepper, and dried herbs.
  • Add bread cubes and toss gently until evenly coated.
  • Spread bread cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, then stir or shake pan and bake another 5-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Remove from oven and cool completely on baking sheet to crisp up further.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze for longer storage.
