  • 1 lb Ground beef Opt for lean beef to keep the casserole from getting too greasy.
  • 4-5 medium Potatoes Russet potatoes recommended, slice thinly for even cooking.
  • 1 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded Sharp cheddar adds robust flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated Freshly grated is preferred.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Customize with red pepper flakes for extra heat.
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika Adds color and subtle smokiness.
  • to taste Salt & pepper Essential for seasoning.
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil For sautéing.
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped Adds sweetness and depth.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Beef broth Veggie broth can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Milk (optional) For extra creaminess.
  • for garnish Fresh parsley Adds a fresh touch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice potatoes thinly, chop onion, and mince garlic.

Cooking the Beef

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add onion and garlic, and sauté for 3-5 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, seasoning with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Layering the Casserole

  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the cooked beef, and half of the cheddar cheese. Repeat the layering.

Adding Liquids

  • Pour beef broth (and milk if using) over the layered casserole, covering tightly with aluminum foil.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle with remaining Parmesan, and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Serving

  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes
