Ingredients
  

Crab Mixture

  • 1 pound Fresh Crab Meat (Dungeness or blue crabs) Best types of crab for sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Preferably unsalted.
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced Adds rich flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed Brightens the flavors.
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley, finely chopped For fresh flavor and color.
  • 2 tablespoons Chives, finely chopped Optional for additional flavor.
  • to taste Salt & Pepper To enhance overall taste.

Bread Base

  • 1 loaf French Baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch slices Provides ideal texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil For brushing on baguette.

Optional Toppings

  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Optional but recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika For garnish and added flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • If using fresh crabs, steam them for about 10 minutes until bright red, cool, and extract the crab meat carefully ensuring no shell bits remain.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, add minced garlic, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine crab meat, melted garlic butter, lemon juice, parsley, chives, and season with salt and pepper, mixing gently.

Toasting

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush each slice lightly with olive oil.
  • Toast the baguette slices in the oven for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Assembly

  • Spoon generous amounts of the crab mixture onto each toasted baguette slice.
  • If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Return the toasts to the oven for another 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  • Garnish with paprika and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Use fresh crab for best flavor. Adjust garlic according to preference. Substitute crab with shrimp or lobster if needed.
