Meat Sauce Ingredients

  • 400 g ground beef or lamb Ground beef is preferred for its rich flavor.
  • 1 whole onion, finely chopped Adds depth to the sauce.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds amazing aroma.
  • 400 g can of diced tomatoes The star of the show for the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste Enhances the tomato flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano Adds warmth and earthiness.
  • to taste salt and pepper Essential for flavor enhancement.
  • as needed olive oil for cooking For sautéing.
  • as needed grated cheese for serving (optional) Adds creamy richness.

Instructions
 

Cooking the Pasta

  • Boil a pot of water, salt it generously, and add the pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente (approximately 8-10 minutes). Drain and set aside, reserving a bit of pasta water if desired.

Sautéing Aromatics

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté for about 3-5 minutes until translucent and golden.

Browning the Meat

  • Add the ground beef (or lamb) and break it up as it sizzles. Cook until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes.

Making the Sauce

  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer and let bubble for about 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  • Once the sauce thickens, toss in the cooked pasta and mix until well coated.

Serving

  • Serve hot topped with grated cheese if desired. Pairs well with garlic bread or a green salad.

Notes

For added flavor, don’t skip the cheese! Tweak seasonings to suit your taste, and feel free to add veggies to the sauté.
