Ingredients

  • 2 large russet potatoes, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil or clarified butter

Instructions

  • Peel and shred the russet potatoes using a box grater or food processor.
  • Rinse the shredded potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.
  • Drain and dry thoroughly using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
  • Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, and optional flour.
  • Heat oil or clarified butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add a compact mound of the potato mixture (about 1/2 cup) and press it down firmly into a flat patty.
  • Cook for 4-5 minutes without disturbing until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  • Flip the hash brown carefully with a spatula and cook the other side until crispy and golden.
  • Transfer the cooked hash browns to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Repeat with the remaining potato mixture, adding more oil as necessary.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!
