  • 2 tbsp butter For caramelizing the shredded meat.
  • ¼ cup brown sugar for caramelizing
  • 2 tbsp beef drippings From slow cooker or roasting pan.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat the brisket dry with paper towels and season it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and chili powder.

Searing

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown.

Slow Cooking

  • For slow cooker method, place the seared brisket into the slow cooker and combine beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and brown sugar in a bowl. Pour this mixture over the brisket and top with sliced onions and minced garlic. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
  • For oven method, preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Place the brisket in a baking dish with the same sauce mixture and toppings, cover tightly with foil, and roast for about 4 hours.

Shredding

  • After cooking, let the brisket rest before shredding it with forks until it falls apart easily.

Caramelizing

  • In a skillet, melt butter and add the shredded brisket along with beef drippings and brown sugar. Stir until caramelized.

Notes

Do not skip the searing step for more flavor. Let the meat rest after cooking for juiciness.
