  • 1 whole onion, sliced Sweetens when cooked.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Enhances flavor.
  • 2 tbsp butter For caramelizing.
  • ¼ cup brown sugar For caramelization.
  • 2 tbsp beef drippings For flavor during caramelization.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Trim excessive fat from the brisket, rinse, pat dry, and season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and chili powder.

Searing

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, sear the brisket for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden-brown.

Slow Cooking

  • For slow cooker method, place seared brisket in the slow cooker with onions, garlic, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and barbecue sauce. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  • For oven method, wrap seared brisket in foil and place in a roasting pan. Add beef broth and bake at 300°F (150°C) for 5-6 hours.

Shredding

  • Transfer the brisket to a cutting board and shred using forks.

Caramelizing

  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add shredded brisket, beef drippings, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until caramelized, about 5-10 minutes.

Notes

Let the brisket rest before shredding for juiciness. Searing adds flavor and texture. Adjust sweetness during caramelization to taste.
