  • 4 slices cheese Sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or gouda are great options.
  • 4 strips bacon Crispy bacon adds irresistible crunch.
  • 1 large onion To be caramelized.
  • 1 tablespoon butter Essential for a golden brown crust.
  • to taste salt and pepper For seasoning.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove and set aside, keeping drippings.
  • Slice the onion thinly and add it to the skillet with bacon grease. Sauté until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Butter one side of each slice of bread for grilling.

Assembly

  • On the unbuttered side of two bread slices, place a slice of cheese, followed by bacon and caramelized onions. Top with another slice of cheese and place a second slice of bread on top, buttered side out.

Grilling

  • Grill the sandwiches in the skillet until the bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Slice the sandwiches in half and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, choose high-quality bread and cheese. Lowering the heat during onion caramelization helps achieve a richer flavor.
